Larnce was born in Odessa, Texas
on September 9th 1993 to Tommy and Julie Hicks. Growing up, Larnce was always a
creative soul, writing stories, building worlds, and fighting his friends with
stick swords. Though reading was difficult for him, this did not stop him from
consuming as much fantasy media as he could. Whether it was video games,
movies, or books, Larnce would take it all in and try to make it his own within
the stories that floated around his mind.
His first attempts at expressing his creativity were in the form
of hand-drawn comics in spiral notebooks that he made during his high school
classes. Though his teachers hated them, his friends and peers loved them
despite being what he calls “utter trash.” He later tried his hand at
writing novels, but his slew of extracurriculars and hobbies got in the way of
pursuing what would one day become his passion.
Larnce studied kinesiology during his later years of college. Though he attended class to nail attendance grades, Larnce was never much of a note taker. He would constantly
find himself working on novels and short stories during class to scratch that
creative itch that simply would never go away. As he progressed through a major
in exercise science and biomechanics, he simultaneously progressed his skills
as a writer until he finally felt ready to sit down and pour his heart and soul
into his first passion project. Tales of Travenhall.
After finishing college, Larnce spent some time pursuing a second passion of his. Martial arts.He started with modern martial arts including boxing, submission wrestling, muay thai, and silat. Though he learned alot from these modern arts about self defense, he never quite found satisfaction or much inspiration for his fantasy series.
But that’s when he found the SCA and HEMA. Larnce joined the SCA (Society of Creative Anachronism) in 2018 and has been hooked ever since. Every weekend, he would armor himself in functional steel armor and fight in the park with solid wood weapons. This gave Larnce a very intimate understanding of what it meant to lock weapons with another person and he began to show it in his writing. He would later begin practicing HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) and learned the finer nuances of swordsmanship from that.
In 2018, Larnce would meet the woman that would become his wife. Claudia was the receptionist at the gym Larnce trained at and one of his clients. While they worked together, they would frequently talk about pop culture, gossip, and just meme all over each other. In time they would start dating and quickly move in together. Larnce proposed to Claudia in February of 2020 and they have scheduled their wedding for June of 2021.
